Mollain – Life Skills for Success
If you can dream it, you can live it.
Nothing here on Mollain is new or earth-shattering.
It must sound stupid and self-defeating my saying this when I really want you to spend time here and keep coming back …but it’s true. Like all info, what’s here can be found many places on the internet, any bookstore, your mother, your friends.
That being said, I want to tell you that stuff again, but hopefully say it in a way that you will hear and truly understand and, most importantly, will move you to action for yourself, for your benefit, and for your success.
Knowledge without action means nothing; ideas without execution accomplish nothing.
Mollain’s Four Principles for Success
What we want most, here at Mollain, is for you to know, think, ACT—to become a better version of yourself and to achieve the things that mean something to you; to achieve your idea of success and happiness, a life well lived.
Mollain is based on four principles even though the topics may seem varied and disconnected at first glance. The central premise is about you and your success—your journey through life that makes you self reliant, successful, and brings you happiness and peace of mind. The four supporting tenets are:
Know yourself
Take the time to examine who you truly are behind the masks you present to the world. Don’t lie to yourself about who you are; accept and love yourself, warts and all. This can be difficult as it forces us to acknowledge that we do have flaws in some areas, we are human after all. However, flaws do not equal failure, they make us unique in who we are and may even give us advantages.
You may not be the smartest but you can aspire to be diligent because diligence brings results. You can plan and acquire knowledge to make good decisions, which are things many smart people fail to do. If you are the smartest in the room, you can learn patience and how to recognise the useful strengths of the lesser endowed.
Knowing which flaws are worth fixing is key. If it’s not detrimental to your well being and success, move on.
Being successful is achieving what you set out to do. It doesn’t always have to do with money, it can be anything.
Be true to yourself
What are your beliefs and values—the driving force of who you are?
Values are the codes by which we live our lives, and by which we judge what success means and the level of success we have achieved. Values dictate right from wrong, good from bad, what’s acceptable from what’s not. Values cause us to care about some things and not others, and cause us to work for some things and not others.
So, what are your values? Be true to them by letting them guide your decisions so that you don’t waste your time pursuing dreams and goals that will have no meaning to you and will not make you satisfied when you have achieved them. Success leads to happiness when our goals are in keeping with our personal values.
Acknowledge and accept where you need improvements to become your best you and achieve your idea of success. Then just DO IT.
Act with dignity
Dignity, you cannot buy it, you cannot get it. Dignity comes from within, a form of self-respect which shows in our behaviour, the surroundings we create for ourselves, and our interactions with others.
You don’t have to like everyone you meet (nor must you allow them to walk over you) but you should treat each person with respect and decency and strive to maintain your dignity even in the most trying situations. When you treat others with respect, it comes back to you.
Above all, give back. Sometimes we only see things from our perspective, how much we give and how little we appear to get back, especially in our personal relationships. We disregard the little intangible things others give us—unwavering support, friendship, belief in our dreams, their time—only recognising tangible things with monetary value. Take the time to recognise and count gifts like these as valuable and accept them with gratitude.
Do it well
Whatever your path in life, whether you chose it or not, do it well. Whether it’s your career, projects, chores or relationships and fun, do it well. At the end of each day, at the end of our lives, we should be able to say “Well Done!” If not, then it’s all a waste of time and since Time = Life, a waste of your life.
Time = Life : Time… used wisely, is a Life well spent.
Recap
These then, are the cornerstones of life’s successes. By knowing ourselves—our values and capabilities—we know which goals will be meaningful to our lives as well as our ability to achieve them.
While we continually strive to improve our knowledge and skills, we recognise that we cannot do it alone and, therefore, we need to interact with others for our benefit. It’s proven that the more respectful we are of others—their time, beliefs and yes, shortcomings—the easier these interactions and the path to our own success.
Nothing happens overnight, and it’s not as easy as a YouTube video. Success takes planning, commitment, work and time. Life comes with pauses, setbacks, compromises and victories. However, if whatever you do, you do it well, the odds are in your favour that you will succeed. Ask anyone you know who has “made it.” They will tell you it doesn’t comes overnight, but it does happen.
